South East Adult Training Camp a Huge Success
Published 24/06/2009
South East region dressage ran a very successful residential adult training clinic on 9th and 10th of June in Kildalton College. Dressage Ireland members travelled from Leinster, Eastern, South Eastern and South Munster regions to avail of expert tuition from international dressage riders and trainers Sue Smallman and Anne Marie Dunphy. On the first day participants benefited from a private lesson with one of the trainers, these sessions were videoed and analysis of these lessons followed in the afternoon, all participants commented on the great benefit they gained from this. Later in the afternoon sessions were held on lunging the rider to improve the seat and lunging the horse to improve the way of going this was followed with a stable management session focusing on fitting of a double bridle and bandaging, a jam packed first day, participants then got the opportunity to unwind and reflect on their first day retiring to a local restaurant.
Day two started with each rider being given the opportunity to ride a test, one of the trainers warmed up each of participants and the other trainer analysed the test and gave feedback with the view to returning in the afternoon to repeat the test, a session then followed on the warming up concept and also on feeding and fittening of the dressage horse and the physical and mental preparation of the rider, in the afternoon the riders returned to ride the test again to see if they could put into practice all the advice they had been given in the morning, each participant was then asked to focus on their goals for the upcoming weeks and months and an individual training plan was put in place. The day finished with a display of the Grand Prix movements by Sue and Oakengrove Ideal. All participants were fulsome in their praise of the clinic and positive that they would return in the future, South East Region dressage would like to take the opportunity to thank all participants for their enthusiasm, Kildalton college for their marvellous facilities and Anne Marie Dunphy and Sue Smallman for their expert tuition and insight into the sport of dressage over the two days.
